This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.
This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.
What units are included in this course?
Students in the SHB30516 Certificate III in Barbering are required to complete a total of twenty-six (26) unit of competencies to be awarded this qualification. This consists of twenty-one (21) core and and five (5) set elective unit of competencies.

What is the duration of this course?
The SHB30516 Certificate III in Barbering runs for approximately ten (10) months, and is held four (4) days a week. Classes are held on a Monday, Tuesday with a Simulated Hairdressing Workplace session held on either Wednesday or Thursday for the full duration of your training, as well as on a Friday for approximately four (4)months of your training.
All classes will commence at 9:15 AM and conclude at 3:45 PM, with a thirty (30) minute lunch break provided to all students at 12:15 PM.
Am I eligible for Skills First Funding
Generally, you are eligible for Skills First Funding if you are:
- an Australian citizen or permanent. resident, or a New Zealand citizen, and
- physically present in Victoria when you are doing your training and assessment.
Additionally, holders of a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card will be eligible for further concessions.
